The text aims to reflect on the expansion of concertina fences in Belo Horizonte (MG). First, we seek to understand the origins of the object’s name and history, initially designed for battlefield uses, and posteriorly adopted as a security element in cities. Secondly, we seek to understand the concertinas as a cheap strategy in the security market, as well as the regulatory role of the municipality. The text is based on a set of images that illustrate the militarized aesthetics of the Belo Horizonte landscape.
