This review has the purpose to guide the dentist in the dental care of pregnant women, from the knowledge of the changes that occur during pregnancy, to establish a plan for safe treatment and overcome the taboos that somehow comes making it difficult to care for these patients. Oral diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis, can be explained byhormonal changes, as well as the incidence of caries may increase due to the change of diet and repeated regurgitations. The choice of the second quarter as the best time to perform dental treatment is due to is more stable period of gestation, but urgent cases should be resolved at any time. Drugs in general should be used only when necessary,knowing that antibiotic amoxicillin and analgesic paracetamol are the safest choise. The use of local anesthetics is not contraindicated and 2% lidocaine with epinephrine as safe. The dental radiography presents no risk to the fetus, since it is using basic preventive measures. Topic fluoride proven to reduce rates of maternal caries, but no effect on the formation of baby teeth. For this literature review, were consulted books, magazines and also papers and monographs, obtained through virtual data bases of publications whose period was between 2000 and 2010.
