The elderly population in Brazil is among the fastest growing in the world. And this has been happening in great proportion. However the Health System (SUS) may not be prepared to cope with such huge demand, since the greatest users of this service are the elderly along with children under 14. Therefore, the analysis of the event "fall" for this population is very important since it affects mostly the elderly, leading to consequences to them and expenditures to the SUS. This study was aimed to analyze, based on scientific articles, the consequences of the accidental fall in this population. The dependence on others (25%), the decreasing of functional capacity (12.5%), among others, were the main factors mentioned in the studies. Thus, the adoption of educational measures for the population as a whole are very important in order to prevent falls and its consequences.
