This study aimed to investigate and compare with the literature, the practice of obtaining information in the external environment. The methodology was conducted as a survey of the literature search for definitions and characteristics of information, intelligence and monitoring systems, and the definition of the conceptual basis of reference, identifying the main tools for monitoring the information available on the Internet. According to the size of the organizations they have different levels of hierarchy and different ways of searching for information to meet your demands. To do this they rely on numerous sources of informationavailable on the market. This is a study on how to seek and obtain information through the internet. Has focused attention on monitoring of information using the tool RSS Feed, including how the information source sends data, the frequency of use of these information sources, and use these tools and Internet sites for monitoring information . The information that the company should closely monitor competitors, markets, trends, technology,legislation, among others, underlie the decision process, adding value to the business. We conclude that the idea that information is a strategic resource of the organization is already incorporated into the current reality. Therefore the information is important in generating knowledge to assist in decision making in organizations, becoming indispensable. The process of monitoring of information, understood, aims at the retrieval of information relevant to the specific needs of the organization, sources available on the Internet, with continuous monitoring done by intelligent agents.
