This article aims to analyze the book Menino de Engenho, by José Lins do Rego from the study of gender characteristics of autobiographical memories and narratives. The work also aims to use other author's autobiographical novels, specifically those that make up the cycle of “cana-de-açúcar” (Doidinho, Banguê, O Moleque Ricardo, Usina e Fogo Morto, in which José Lins takes advantage of their own experience to develop their literary productions. Meus Verdes Anos will also be evoked to make a parallel between autobiography and autobiographical fiction. The selected books will be analyzed from memorialistic view, as it aims to identify, or at least infer, what is experience and what is literary representation, or even the complex resource that is the fictionalization starting from a lived experience.
