Prevalence of Streptococcus as a cause of bloodstream infections, which are potentially fatal, has increased; and many recent studies have reported the strength of the antimicrobial macrolide these microorganisms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility of microorganisms isolated from severe or complex dental infections Municipal Hospital Odilon Behrens, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to the effect of macrolides. 24 samples were isolated Streptococcus viridans from patients with odontogenic infection in progress. The bacterial species were identified by conventional biochemical tests and thesusceptibility profile was evaluated by agar diffusion method. For the test,Azithromycin, Erythromycin and Clarithromycin disks were used. It wasconcluded that there was an agreement on values achieved between theantimicrobial agents, including macrolides. Since the prevalence of resistant samples (54.16%) were equivalent when compared to susceptible samples (45.83%). Thus, by presenting laboratory correlation, we can choose the antimicrobial agent with the least possible side effects and dosage facilitated.
