This article is part of a research about the themes of leisure and cinema and involved the analysis of 15 Latin American films, including the award-winning film Neon Bull (Boi Neon, Brazil, 2016). The objectives of this article are to understand how the main characters of this film are represented, to identify which meanings these representations produce in the plot. The methodology of this qualitative investigation counted on bibliographical research, interviews with the public soon after the assistance of the film in the cinema, and filmic analysis. The analyzes showed that the representation of the main characters of the film Neon Bull was constructed through an expansion of the gender identities. In this way, the film produces meanings about behaviors considered masculine or feminine, instigating each spectator to recognize and to stand in front of this and other themes that intersect in the plot.
