Resumen
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), especially coronary heart disease, most often the result of atherosclerosis. Its development is related to several risk factors such as age, sex, hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, family history of CVD, diabetes and sedentary lifestyle. Besides these, a variety of inflammatory and hemostatic factors are associated with increased risk of CVD: high levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), von Willebrand factor, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFa) and fibrinogen (35). the aim of this review is to verify that periodontal disease can trigger diseases cardiovasculares.Foi conducted a search in the database LILACS, MEDLINE, SCIELO finding a population of 85 scientific papers and of these only 8 were used. Through this literature review could conclude that an association between oral health compromised, missing teeth and coronary artery disease as well as periodontal disease and acute coronary syndrome (ACS), periodontal infections and atherosclerosis is that periodontal disease is more prevalent and more severity in patients with ischemic heart disease.
