In Brazil, one of the major diseases affecting the oral health and has been the subject of epidemiological studies because of its prevalence and severity is tooth decay. At age 12, 43.5% of Brazilian children had some caries experience. Facing the possibility of rehabilitating patients with deep carious lesions with pulpal conservative treatment, when indicated and have high success rates and avoid radical treatments and early loss of teeth this study aims to critically review the literature on treatment conservative pulp in young people and suggest protocols. Collaborating with the evidence-based practice, especially in primary care. We addressed the characteristics of the pulp-dentin complex, the characteristics of protective materials exposed dentin and pulp, and address the pulp capping techniques used nowadays. Reaffirming that the attempt to keep the vital teeth is always valid, since the loss of a tooth is a kind of mutilation, amending various functions of the individual, such as chewing, speech and swallowing, and cosmetic damage.
