In the last decade of the twentieth century, individual and collective memories have regained importance, a phenomenon identified, particularly, by the rescue of themes and characters of historical, political and artistic relevance, through literature, cinema and music. In this scenario, there is an intense production of biographical documentaries in Brazil, specially about personalities from the musical scene. In this work, some perspectives for the biographical construction on documentary films are presented. How do the filmmakers perform the task of building a character, his life, his story? What factors determine the way a biographical documentary film is produced? Finally, it is perfomed a critical analysis individual and comparative - of the biographical construction in the films Nelson Freire, by João Moreira Salles, Vinicius, by Miguel Faria Jr. and Cartola Music for the eyes, by Hilton Lacerda and Lírio Ferreira.
