The objective of this review was to analyze the evidence from randomized clinical trials on the effects of Pilates method exercises on the rehabilitation of chronic low back pain CLBP in the elderly. A literature review of experimental studies in the MEDLINE and LILACS databases was carried out, restricting articles published in the last five years. The eligibility criteria were: randomized clinical trials published in the last five years, whose sample had a mean age greater than or equal to 65 years, and who presented a proposal for CLBP treatment in elderly patients based on Pilates exercises. Articles that intervened in young adults with the inclusion of the elderly were excluded. The electronic search resulted in a total of 30 articles, of which 04 were selected that assumed the inclusion criteria of this review. There was great variability in the outcomes of the included studies: pain, function, fear of fall, disability, quality of life and even bone mineral density, after interventions with Pilates exercises, but which demonstrated benefits of the pilates method in CLBP in the elderly. This review showed that the Pilates method plays an important role in the rehabilitation of the elderly with CLBP, and that the incorporation of these exercises can potentiate the relief of symptoms, improvement of strength, balance and functionality, bringing positive repercussions on the quality of life of elderly people with CLBP.
