This paper deals with the analysis of polychromy of the sacred sculptures of the 18th and early 19th centuries from Sabará city, located in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, MG. For the study we analyzed 22 sculptures and two pulpits of five churches in the historical center of the city, and the sculpture Saint Anne located in the Museu do Ouro. During the research we tried to relate the upholstery to each other in search of elements that revealed the identity of the Sabarense polychrome. The identified characteristics, amongst document of 1818 ranscribed by ZoroastroViannaPassos, indicated the work of a polychrome workshop in the city, possibly led by Joaquim Gonçalves da Rocha. Our studies also led us to the hypothesis that the same painter would have polychromed some of the sculptures studied.
