Resumen
Introduction: Tendinopathy is not an inflammatory condition but rather a result of a failed
tissue healing process. With high prevalence, often recurrent and prolonged recovery, it can
impact athletes' performance and longevity. Considering that the injured tendon needs
concentric and eccentric loading, and the progressive load, for its recovery, the Heavy Slow
Resistance Program has become an alternative for the rehabilitation of lower limbs
tendinopathies.
Objective: the aim of this study was to verify the application and effect of the Heavy Slow
Resistance Program on the rehabilitation of athletes with tendinopathies, especially patellar
and Achilles tendinopathies.
Methods: The electronic databases used in this study were Medline, Lilacs and PEDro.
Results: The initial search found 112 articles, of which three were identified as relevant from
the inclusion and exclusion criteria, one related to Achilles tendinopathy and two to the
patellar tendinopathy.
Conclusion: The Heavy Slow Resistance Program presented positive results in improving
pain and function in athletes with Achilles and patellar tendinopathy, in the short, medium
and long term. The method was also superior in the renewal of tendon collagen, in the
satisfaction and adherence to the treatment, in comparison with other types of treatment.
Thus, the Heavy Slow Resistance Program has proven to be a promising option for the
rehabilitation of lower limb tendinopathies in athletes, but there is still a need for future
researches.
