Um mapa da ciência da informação: história, subáreas e paradigmas

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss, in a single argumentative line, different dimensions of the epistemological discussion about information science: its historical evolution, its subareas and the evolution of the concept of information in the area. In the beginning, the facts that originated the area and its consolidation in the 1960s and 1970s. The cognitive turn in the 1980s and 1990s is analyzed and the impact of the notion of "knowledge"in the different subareas. Soon after, the contemporary theories that compose the socio-cultural turn of the 21st century are presented. As a result of this evolution, six dimensions of the concept of information are systematized. Finally, some contemporary challenges for the area are highlighted.
