Health institutions, whether public or private, philanthropic, civil or military, including those that carry out teaching and research as all productive activity, generates environmental and health impacts. All of them are responsible for the elaboration, implementation, implementation and monitoring of the Health Services Waste Management Plan (SWMP), a document that points out and describes all actions related to Health Services Waste Management. This study aimed to know the difficulties of night shift care professionals regarding segregation and proper disposal of health waste and to seek a form of training that is consistent with the reality and need of night workers. The methodology used was built through the Situational Strategic Planning that defined and guided the activities of diagnosis of the demands of night shifts in relation to segregation and waste disposal and proposed intervention actions. To start the activities was presented to the head of the Waste Management Unit and the Teaching and Research Management (RM) a project that would include health education actions to empower the target audience. The elaboration of the intervention and implementation plan followed a scope that included part of the theoretical framework discussed in the subjects of the Specialization Course in Health Educators Training of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. The initial approach was taken to find out the most frequent doubts of night professionals regarding waste segregation and then began the training process with the “Chat Wheel” model. The analysis of the data collected after the implementation of the measures showed a decrease in improper disposal of these wastes and confirmed the effectiveness of this proposal. Therefore, this intervention project optimized adherence to the Health Waste Management Plan, providing a healthier work environment. Educational actions in this context were essential so that all stages of the project could be completed and demonstrated how important the role of the health educator in the institutions is.
