Resumen
Many specialized studies have noted the high level of physical problems experienced by violinists. However, only a few of these studies point towards the reflection and discussion of these problems, especially from health professionals. Furthermore, most of the studies found deal with the physical problems that orchestra professionals encounter, and it had not been too much discussed those submitted by violin students. In order to contribute to the discussion of these problems, the aim of this study was the observation and evaluation of the physical problems presented by six students of the Graduate Course at Music School , UFMG, in their violin practice. A research was conducted involving bibliographic studies related to the Anatomy, Biomechanical and Cinesiology. Data was collected through observation, films and photos of the six violin students at four different situations of performance in the context of their graduation course, besides the physiotherapeutic assessments held in the office of the Physiotherapist researcher. This data was submitted to a panelcomposed of four observers, health and music specialists. The analysis of this data revealed that the six violin students showed inappropriate physical patterns that could jeopardize their performance as well as their health. There was a discussion around these issues, which were explained through the lengths of Physiotherapy. We hope that this research could draw the attention of violinists and violin teachers tothe importance of body consciousness whilst performing the instrument, emphasising the need to maintain the symmetry and body relaxing of those parts involved in the act of playing the violin.
