Resumen
Dengue is the most important arbovirus that affects humans and is positioning itself, along with other neglected tropical diseases as a serious public health problem. In Brazil and in other tropical countries, the environmental conditions favor the development and proliferation of Aedes aegypti. According to the World Health Organization dengue in 2008 reached over 100 countries on all continents, except Europe. In Minas Gerais Dengue has become an epidemic out of control, many municipalities are getting exposed to increased cases of dengue, such as the city of Medina, located in the Valley of the Jequitinhonha 650km from state capital Belo Horizonte. Considering the increasing number of people affected in this city, we designed a study based on cases notified in Epidemiology from the years 2009 to 2010. The results showed an increase in reported cases which highlights the city of Medina as a priority for the Regional Health Management Blue Stone and the need for developing strategies for the prevention of Dengue.
