Resumen
Based on the improved behavior of Portland cement pastes and mortars produced with carbon nanotubes (CNT) grown directly on the clinker, this work presents a study of the effect of the CNTs in concretes. The investigated properties were the workability, compressive and splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and water absorption of concretes produced with nanostructured clinker. For comparison, a conventional and a self-compacting concrete were investigated with 0.15 and 0.30 % of CNTs with respect to cement content. Reference concretes without CNTs were also produced with Brazilian CP-V type cement. The conventional concrete had a water/cement ratio of 0.60 while for the self-compacting concrete this ratio was set to 0.45. The results showed that the incorporation of the CNTs in both contents did not affect concrete workability. On the other hand, the presence of CNTs reduced water absorption and increased splitting tensile strength and the modulus of elasticity of the self-compacting concrete.
