Resumen
The need to increase the recovery of mineral reserves, reducing the volume of waste sent to tailings dams associated with the increasing difficulty of obtaining local and environmental permits for them, are some of the factors that make the processing of slimes an alternative to increased metallurgical recovery of iron, with ability of uniting the environmentally correct, the rational use of natural resources and profit. Nowadays, the tailings dams are a condition without which no viable installation and operation of the plants processing of iron ore. Considering the particularities of each mine and ore, the existing studies demonstrate the existence of technical feasibility for the recovery and concentration of the millions of tons of iron ultrafines iron ore which are discarded to tailings dams every year (approximately 48.9 million cubic meters of iron ore tailings were discarded in 2010). This monograph sought to carry out a literature review on the possibility of recovery of ultrafine iron. Rejoined the case studies in minings, in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero in Minas Gerais, in the last decade about the mentioned subject. Conducted a survey with data from the main plants and their respective tailing dams.
