In this work we study the physics of optical tweezers. We apply experimental techniques to make an absolute, parameter-free, comparison between experiment and a new exact theory of optical tweezers, called the Debye-Mie (DM) Theory. We theoretically analyze the phenomenon in the Rayleigh and Geometrical Optics limits, establishing comparisons with our experimental data and with the DM theory. We found discrepancies between DM Theory results and experimental data. Finally, we discuss the inclusion of spherical aberration of light in the theory, which increases the accordance with the experiments.
