dc.description.abstractWith rising rates of HIV infection in women of reproductive age can observe an increase of congenital transmission of HIV. This study deals with a review of the literature in order to outline the measures to control the vertical transmission of HIV, with the focus on nursing contributions to this reduction. This paper deals with AIDS in HIV positive pregnant women and vertical transmission contribution of nursing to reduce vertical transmission of HIV. The knowledge by the health team of the impact of vertical transmission prophylaxis and allowed to adopt measures with patient education to better control the disease, offering comfort and quality of life allowing pregnant women infected with HIV and their children. Midwives should therefore be updated to the participation and development of programs to assist pregnant women with HIV.
