Resumen
Floods and floods in Brazilian urban centers reaffirm the problems between the
relationship between the river and the city. The objective of the article is to establish the
relationship between smart cities and their technologies for rainwater drainage,
mitigating the problems resulting from an inefficient water system. The survey of these
technologies in smart cities will help to understand the measures that are already
applied and can be applied to mitigate events. The term "sponge city", is approached
and developed in a Chinese city, where a system was created that replaces surfaces such
as asphalt and concrete for surfaces with permeable soils, which absorb rainwater and
work as a filter storing water for the whole city. With this, the work will seek to analyze
the relationship between smart cities, and sponge cities, and the urban drainage system.
The Arrudas stream on a stretch on Avenida Teresa Cristina in the Betânia
neighborhood in the city of Belo Horizonte is the case study at work. In the area, a
mapping of the site and a study are carried out for the possible implementation of
measures and technologies for the intelligent absorption of rainwater.
