Currently, due to the high number of lightning strokes that occur each year, has been a growing number of people interested in protecting equipment and facilities, the damage caused by them. As a support to develop effective systems for lightning protection, designers use the Brazilian Standard for Lightning Protection. The text of the standard features however, several deficiencies in writing, which has lead to a serious difficulty of interpretation. In order to assist the designers in this task, we sought to develop a computational tool in this work, by developing an Expert System. The system is able to provide guidance on the need or otherwise to protect the buildings against lightning indicating, if positive, the elements necessary to ensure that protection is done efficiently. Additionally, if desired, you can also test the feasibility of using their own metal parts of the building as elements of the project. In order toadapt the the system to user needs ,we sought the collaboration of these ,by filling in questionnaires with questions about program performance. The finding of the feasibility of using Expert System in the project area in high-voltage systems, as well as aid in the interpretation of technical standards are the result of this work.
