Acedia y eutrapelia en algunos textos medievales españoles

Abstract

Resumen: La noción de “acedia” se fue estrechando con el paso del tiempo hasta limitarse a lo que hoy se entiende por simple “pereza”, mientras que hasta fines de la Edad Media aún estaba vigente su significado más amplio de “tristeza por el bien”, como podemos ver en numerosos ejemplos. Más notable resulta su contraposición con la virtud de la eutrapelia, no en un mismo plano por cierto, pero aludiendo a una interesante relación.

Abstract: The idea of “acidia” was narrowing itself with the passing of the time up to confine itself to that is understood as mere laziness, while up to last Middle Ages even keeps valid its broader meaning of “sadness in view of the Good”, as we can see in a lot of cases. More notable is its contrast with the virtue of “eutrapelia”, not in the same level, certainly, but refering to an interesting relation.
