| dc.description | In parallel with the development of Mercantilism during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, there appeared in Salamanca and Hispanic America a school of thought formed by Catholic priests who sought to understand how the Thomistic principles of just price and commutative justice applied to in an economy characterized by trade at an international scale. Two early contributions to economic theory appear: the autonomy of economics with respect to authority and a perspective of a country's prosperity based on the well-being of its inhabitants seen as consumers. This “alternative discourse" is recovered in the twentieth century as an anticipation of the principles of Marginalism. | |
| dc.description | Paralelamente al desarrollo del mercantilismo durante los siglos XVI y XVII, surge en Salamanca e Hispanoamérica una escuela de pensamiento formada por sacerdotes católicos que trataban de comprender cómo regían los principios tomistas de precio justo y justicia conmutativa en una economía presidida por el intercambio mercantil a escala internacional. Aparecen dos aportes tempranos a la teoría: la autonomía de la economía respecto de la autoridad y una perspectiva de la prosperidad de un país basada en el bienestar de sus habitantes vistos como consumidores. Este “discurso alternativo” es recuperado en el siglo XX como anticipatorio de los principios del Marginalismo. | |
