Resumen
Previous studies, such as those by Carral et al (2012) and Azor et al (2011) have concluded that having a good physical condition and good eating habits will influence positively on the academic performance of students. OBJECTIVE: To establish the relationship between physical fitness and nutritional habits in academic performance of children 9 and 10 degree from south Saludcoop school IED - Day Tomorrow. METHODS: Cross-sectional descriptive study and characterization of physical fitness, nutritional habits and academic performance of students in 9th and 10th grade from school Saludcoop. For characterization, descriptive statistics where performed, with calculations of Mean and Standard Deviation. After the characterization, correlations are established: a) Anthropometry and academic performance, b) Fitness and academic performance, c) Eating habits and academic performance using the Pearson coefficient (p <0.05) and the coefficient Tau - Kendall (p <0.05). RESULTS: 44 students of 9th and 10th grade from School Saludcoop (average age 14.74 years, SD = ± 1.131, 20 men and 24 women) were evaluated on their anthropometric characteristics, Fitness, Nutritional Habits and Academic Performance with calculating the Mean and Standard Deviation. Subsequently correlations are performed, obtaining statistical significance for: a) Expense vs. kilocalories academic achievement with R2 = 0.0260 and p= 0.04 for b) abdominal strength vs. overall academic performance with an R2 of 0.300 and p= 0.024, c) power level vs. overall academic performance with K= 0.226 and p= 0.03 and d) as reinforcement snack three meals vs. academic performance with K = -0.221 and p= 0.04. CONCLUSIONS: A good academic performance depends for this population of students of a good level of power, so as to reduce the consumption of fast foods and soda drinks. In similar way, we can improve the academic performance of students who were part of this study from the implementation of days of physical activity whose approach to be routed to work on muscular fitness (strength and endurance) and aerobic capacity.
