Resumen
It is pretended in this work to analyze the behavior of the secondary sector in Colombia, it develops from its background and a study based on the description of its weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages in terms of the trade balance and the balance of payments in the last ten years. The subject reviews the benefits and damages of that sector since the beginning of the Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and EFTA, also how they have affected the local industry.
The importance of the industry is the productive engines of the Colombian economy, its participation in the GDP is 38%, a variation of 5,8%; that creates qualified and unqualified employment (more than 220.000) in 2011; it helps the welfare of the population and supports economy growth in the long term. (Factbook C. T., 2012).
