In this project, a model was made, which will serve as a tool for government and state entities in Honda, department of Tolima, in order to calculate and identify the threats that are generated by the floods that occur in the area.
This is why an analysis was carried out in the study area, in order to show the vulnerable areas that are in the vicinity of the Gualí River.
This model was developed with the help of the IBER software, which is a tool that generates numerical models of the water flow in a 2-dimensional (2D) free sheet. IBER is a model developed by the Spanish public administration, with the collaboration of: University of Coruña, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering [14]. The ArcGIS and HEC-HMS softwares were used as a complement in the same way. For the development of this project, the registered information of the stations was taken into account: Mariquita, El Edén, El Mango, La Danta, La Cimarrona, El Guayabo, Honda Airport, Mariquita Airport and Las Brisas. From this, secondary information on events generated by floods that occur in times of high rainfall, especially in the upper areas of the basin, were taken into account. This information was taken into account in order to justify that the areas are being affected by floods generated by the increase in the water surface of the riverbed and that has harmed the population that is located near the river. After collecting the information from the stations close to the riverbed, the modeling was carried out in the different periods of time selected in HEC-HMS in order to be able to obtain downstream outflow. This information will be used as initial data in the IBER software where the flood scenarios were obtained. Obtaining velocity information on the X and Y axes, obtaining values in units of m3 / s in addition to the height of the water surface. With the information obtained from the results calculated by the IBER tool, we proceeded to develop the analysis of the results obtained by the software in each event. In this way, we can provide possible solutions to the risks that are caused by the overflowing of the river. This is why strategies for mitigation, prevention and attention to emergencies are proposed in order to reduce the risks caused by extreme rainy seasons. It is important to clarify that this document seeks to provide approximate information on flooding events that occur in the study area, such as threats in vulnerable areas.
