Resumen
In the area of endodontics, radiographs are an essential diagnostic aid in all phases of treatment because they allow visualization of the tooth, tissues and surrounding anatomical structures. The most commonly used routine radiography by general dentists is panoramic radiography, however, this has great disadvantages such as its magnification in a range of 17% to 25%. The periapical radiography presents a grayscale image that depending on the Technical characteristics used by the operator at the time of the capture allow the visualization of the tooth with its periapical tissues.
This projection is given in two dimensions, in 1: 1 scale. It is important to note that knowing the most frequent findings, allow the dentist to propose prevention actions of them, pay special attention at the time of analysis of their initial x-ray and be able to route correctly the course of treatment. The main objective of this research is: What is the frequency of the most frequent endodontic findings found in digital periapical radiographs taken at Santo Tomas University?
The general objective is to determine the frequency of endodontic findings found on periapical radiographs taken at the Diagnostic Imaging Center of the Santo Tomás University, the specifics establish the association between each endodontic finding and the group of affected teeth and identify the relationship between the endodontic finding and the sociodemographic variables. The universe consisted of 32 digital periapical games distributed in 408 radiographs and 660 teeth were evaluated available at the Diagnostic Imaging Center of the University of Santo Tomas. The endodontic finding with the highest prevalence in the selected radiograph sample consisted of endodontic treatment with 72.2%. Of the total teeth with the finding, it was possible to identify that 37.1% were found within the appropriate radiographic parameters, that is, they did not present any anomaly. However, 34.3% of the teeth presented subextended, 11.4% of the teeth presented subobturation and 3.8% presented over-sealing. The high frequency of endodontic findings in the group of central incisors, indicate the need to improve their filling technique of professionals.
