Resumen
San Rafael de Pacho Hospital is a second level state social Enterprise, which serves a population of approximately 80,000 inhabitants, making it a major generator of waste, among which hazardous waste predominates; generating an average of 2900 Kg/month. For that reason, it was indispensable to update the Plan of integral management of residues PGIRHS to PGIRASA; attending the current needs of the hospital, which focused on establishing stricter measures for the internal and external management of the waste generated there and also in accordance with current regulations, since, Decree 2676 of 2000, which regulates the Integral Management of Hospital and Similar Waste, was repealed by Decree 351 of 2014, which is in force and dictates the Plan for integrated management of waste generated in health care and other activities, where more rigorous guidelines are established for proper waste management and environmental conservation.
Considering the regulatory change regarding the management of hospital wastes, the modification of the PGIRHS was carried out, so that it was adjusted to the guidelines and requirements of the PGIRASA. Among the aspects reviewed and updated are the environmental and health diagnosis, the conditions and programs for proper segregation and handling of waste by patients, visitors and staff, especially in the area of care and general services that are directly related to the generation and handling of hazardous waste. Additionally, a program focused on the strategy of green and healthy hospitals was designed, a plan was developed for the collection of sharps waste from home treatment of patients with chronic diseases and the external management stage was defined along with the plans for monitoring and evaluating regulatory compliance with their respective continuous improvement.
