Resumen
Objective: Establish the relationship between reading habits and academic performance of the students of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Recreation of the Santo Tomas University Bucaramanga section. Materials and methods: Analytic cross-sectional study, with a sample of 189 students from 7 semesters (second to eighth semester), with an average age of 20.63 years, 89.41% men and 10.58% women. As an instrument a survey was used which was validated by the research committee of the Faculty. Results: It is evidenced regarding the habit of reading, which the majority have a preference to read occasionally. The reading habit was essentially originated in school and childhood; the favorite place of reading is the library. The favorite subject of reading are complementary study texts. The majority states that reading represents a need and is of great importance for academic and comprehensive training. Regarding academic performance, I show that there is a general cumulative average of 3.87%. Conclusions: Taking as reference the quality criteria of the self-evaluation process with a view to accreditation of the Physical Culture, Sports and Recreation program, it can be said that only 1.58% of the students of the faculty have a criterion where they fully comply (4, 5 to 5.0) with respect to its accumulated average. This compared to 90.47% that meets in a high degree (3.5 to 4.49).
