Resumen
Introduction: Levels of physical activity and self-esteem can decrease with age, although this is not always the case, since there are external factors that contribute to preservation and stimulation, such as cultural activities and a physically active life. Objective: To determine the level of physical activity and self-esteem of older adults belonging to the "Salud y Vida" group of the Centro Vida-Kennedy of the city of Bucaramanga. Materials and Methods: Descriptive correlational study in 100 older adults. The GPAQ questionnaires were applied to determine the level of physical activity and the Rosenberg Scale to determine the level of self-esteem. Statistical analysis was performed with Stata 12.0. Continuous variables were analyzed in measures of central tendency and dispersion, the categorical ones with absolute and relative frequencies. The correlation between continuous variables of interest was performed with the Spearman test. The level of significance used was 5%. Results: Most of the population are women (89%). The type of physical activity with the highest prevalence in older adults is displacement, with 89%. 50% have a vigorous level of physical activity. A normal level of self-esteem was obtained with a median of 34 (31-37). A negative correlation was obtained between self-esteem and age, and a significant negative correlation between self-esteem with moderate physical activity and a significant negative correlation between age with moderate physical activity. Conclusion: It is concluded that the domain of physical activity with the highest prevalence is displacement. Most of the population evaluated has a vigorous level of physical activity. The older adults in the study have a normal level of self-esteem. There is a significant negative correlation between the level of self-esteem and the level of moderate physical activity, and there is no evidence of a correlation between the level of self-esteem and the level of vigorous physical activity.
