Introduction: Diabetes is a systemic disease, which consists of a hormonal imbalance that can be genetic multifactorial and where blood glucose levels are not normal child. It is important that the professional dentist has clear knowledge about this disease, so that in clinical practice a diagnosis and timely treatment can be given. Dental care. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out and it was proposed to describe the level of knowledge of the students enrolled in the dentistry of sex and the ninth semester at the Santo Tomás University, in relation to the management of the diabetic patient in the dental practice. The sample size was the total of the population, which was constituted by 165 students enrolled during the second academic period of the year 2018. A voluntary non-probabilistic sample that is given because the student decides to participate in the survey voluntarily. This is a questionnaire consisting of 28 questions with 4 response options, related to the basic concept of diabetes that dentistry students of the Santo Tomás de Bucaramanga University should have. Results: Based on the instrument used, it was obtained that 82 (74.5%) participants were female and 28 (25.5%) male, where 57 (51.8%) belonged to sixth semester and 53 (48.2%) belonged to a ninth semester; It was evidenced that strata three and four were the most common with 23 (20.9%) and 38 (34.5%) respectively. It was evidenced that 75.4% of the participating population (83 people) obtained a level of knowledge in the dental management of the diabetic patient, predominantly female with 78.5%. Conclusion: The students of sex and ninth semester of the University Santo Tomás obtained a level of knowledge average as far as the dental attention of the diabetic patient, nevertheless, there is a no significant difference in the suitable levels.
