Objective: Describe the characteristics of visual status in children from two official schools in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga in October 2019 and February 2020. Methodology: An analytical observational cross-sectional study in population third to fifth grade, each child each participant was applied visual screening and questions on aspects of recreation and study habits. The sample was calculated using the Epidat 3.0 program, which gave a total of 62 participants. Results: 50% of the population was female, in terms of distant visual acuity, the normal value prevailed; for the left eye an equality was shown in hyperopia and astigmatism with 43% Conclusions: the majority of participants were urban residents belonging to socioeconomic stratum 1, in the study astigmatism prevailed with 44% as the most frequent ametropia, motor and accommodative normal state, with time destined for two hour activities where the use of screens it was the most frequent.
