dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The tear film is a very specialized and well organized moist layer that covers and protects the ocular surface; consists of three layers (aqueous, oily, and mucin); these should be kept within fairly narrow quantitative and qualitative limits to preserve the integrity and proper functioning of the Visual System. In addition to this, it is important to take into account the natural physical properties of the tear, such as the hydrogen potential (PH), osmotic pressure, volume and refractive index
Objective: To characterize the variations of the refractive index of the tear exposed to changes in temperature in people with unchanged tear film at the Santo Tomas University Bucaramanga University.
Methodology: The project is experimental, analytical and longitudinal. It will be carried out through the implementation of the digital refractometer RX-5000α with which the variations of temperature and the measurement of the refractive index of the tear of each of the patients that are in the study will be realized. In the first instance an assessment of the subject's ocular surface will be performed, with the implementation of lacrimal diagnostic tests along with the slit lamp.
Results: The characterization of the refraction index of the tear was achieved, taking into account temperature changes made through the RX-5000α digital refractometer, where an inversely proportional variation was observed, taking into account the Spearman correlation coefficient.
