Resumen
Over the years it has been noticed that the different road construction and rehabilitation techniques commonly used generate high costs and environmental damage. for this reason, methods have been sought to reduce these factors. among these are: the recycling of asphalt pavements (RAP) and Electric Arc Furnace Slags (EAF-Slags), which are used in the design of hot dense mixtures by analyzing the mechanical behavior that influences them.
According to the above, recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) is used daily in new asphalt mixtures, considering that it is a material that has great hetereogeneity. it is produced from the milling of asphalt layers; on the other hand, Electric Arc Furnace Slags (EAF-Slags) are the waste obtained from the manufacture of steel, which main raw material is scrap metal; this material is optimal for asphalt mixtures due to its physical characteristics, composition and granulometry.
The research was carried out at the Santo Tomás University in the city of Tunja, where initially a characterization of the coarse aggregates and fine aggregates of the hot dense asphalt mix was performed, complying with the requirements imposed by the National Roads Institute. (INVIAS). After the characterization, 51 briquettes were made to obtain the stability (kN) and flow (mm) of the optimum design mix using the Marshal equipment.
Finally, an optimum mix was obtained with the addition of the new material of 30% of both coarse aggregate and fine aggregate and 4.5% of asphalt, proving that the results comply with the requirements of the INVIAS standard.
