Resumen
The main objective is to identify the practices employed and the knowledge that caregivers of pediatric patients attending the Garcia Harker pediatric center have regarding the use of VDT and its consequences at visual and ocular level, in Bucaramanga, Colombia during the year 2022. Through a quantitative cross-sectional survey type study in which 30 caregivers of children between 0 and 12 years old were included, which were selected intentionally, taking into account that it was the person who has the time and spends more time with the infant. A survey was applied on the knowledge of the use of VDT, consequences of prolonged use, sociodemographic variables in which an analysis of the results will be made by means of a diagram where the information will be processed and the results obtained will be explained. In the months between July and October 2021, 30 surveys were conducted with caregivers, in the relationship between caregiver and patient, it was found that 100% were parents, and 63% were male. Also, it was possible to identify the use of each device (computer, cell phone, TV, Tablet), and it was found with 57% that the most used VDT was the computer.
In relation to the knowledge of the caregivers regarding the consequences of the use of VDTs, 70% opted for accommodative problems, 60% do not use optical correction and 83% take the child every year for consultation, It was concluded that there is a lack of information about the knowledge that caregivers have about the visual and ocular consequences generated by the prolonged use of VDTs in children, It was concluded that there is a lack of information about the knowledge that caregivers have about the visual and ocular consequences that the prolonged use of VDTs generates in children when they are exposed to them at an early age, also the little information that caregivers receive from visual health professionals for prevention, describing the practices that children have with VDTs, taking into account the distance and the time of use.
