Resumen
The re-aeration coefficients explain the importance the presence of dissolved oxygen in the water resource, it’s relation to the absence of atmospheric oxygen and how the processes of mixing and self-cleaning of the water are developed when evaluating the hydraulic characteristics of a river and its respective determining parameters for water quality modeling. However, the tracer method is developed from the injection of conservative substances that are responsible for collecting information on contaminants present in the water, and therefore establish a relationship with the re-aeration coefficients calculated to subsequently perform an analysis of the Results obtained and their main conditionals to the water quality of the Palomino River.
The main objective of this paper is the determination and comparison of re-aeration rates (Ka) by means of empirical and semi-empirical equations by the tracer method, as well as a solute analysis with the help of the ADZ method, and subsequently a comparison of these rates with the rate of re-aeration obtained by a gaseous experiment for a determined section of the Palomino River, La Guajira.
Ka values of 1.5701 d-1 were obtained by the O'Connor-Dobbins equation (1958), and for the gaseous exchange experiment equal to 1.653 d-1. The selection of these rates is given by the adjustment to the current pipe and river conditions.
