Resumen
Introduction: The elderly is any person over 60 years of age who goes through an aging process throughout the life cycle. One of the changes that the literature shows with greater prevalence is in muscular strength, this capacity being important for the performance of activities of daily life, which is strongly related to the functionality of the elderly. The measurement of blood pressure is of great interest in various areas of health and sports sciences, since its timely assessment prevents the appearance and increase of cardiovascular risk, thus allowing better control over the morbidity and mortality rate for different heart conditions. Manual grip strength (FPM) has been recognized as a condition that reflects general muscular strength, facilitating the diagnosis of functional limitation, physical frailty and disability. The objective of this monograph is to expose the association between manual grip strength and blood pressure in older adults with updated scientific evidence.
Methodology A bibliographic review of published scientific studies databases was conducted primarily in PubMed (Medline, National Library of Medicine, NIH, USA) and SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online, Brazil). Several articles were selected between the period (2000-2020) that allowed highlighting the most relevant content.
Conclusion: It was established that there is an association between manual grip strength and blood pressure in older adults, since higher values of grip strength or grip strength are related to a reduction in the risk of arterial hypertension. Grip strength is higher in men compared to women
