Resumen
The action generated by the open-air solid waste dumps in the vicinity of the Vanguardia de Villavicencio airport, has caused in recent years, among other problems, an exponential growth in the population of scavengers; the presence of these birds in the airport's areas of influence triggers a potential increase in the risk of aeronautical collisions. Due to this, the realization of this study is proposed, in order to contribute to find and implement new plans that lead to a solution to this problem.
The present project in its first part identifies and spatializes the sources of affectation due to open dumping of solid waste. Likewise, the information obtained was correlated with the population abundance of scavengers and mitigation measures and alternatives are proposed to help reduce a possible aeronautical danger or risk at the airport.
By means of population censuses, the identification and distribution of the groups of scavengers were carried out and also the focal points of the open-air solid waste dumps adjacent to the airport were identified. To collect the information during the research, visual censuses of scavengers were carried out and an aeronautical risk or danger of collision was calculated based on factors related to the distances from the landfills to the airport and the ecological characteristics. of birds that predispose them to an increased risk of a violent encounter of the birds with an aircraft.
The observations made to the scavenger birds for this study show results, first of the quantity or abundance in the specific sectors of the study, and secondly, to make the correlation of the aeronautical danger indices that can be generated from these within the vicinity of the airport.
The results evidenced in the study constitute an input for the Vanguardia airport entity to plan activities within the airport's areas of influence, related to the management of waste and how the effects of this problem caused by collision risks can be mitigated of birds with aircraft.
Part of the most relevant results obtained are the need for reforestation of the airport's areas of influence, and improving and increasing control over solid waste dumps.
Additionally, this research constitutes a support for the consolidation of the airport database in relation to the censuses of the birds identified in the area of influence.
