        Resumen
Root resorption (RR) is the loss of mineralized tissue originated by the odontoclastic cells, located on the internal or external dental surface, this pathology being asymptomatic, the diagnosis is obtained by means of radiographs or tomography. Conventional radiographs project a two-dimensional image, which can generate failures in the diagnosis of RR, while CBCT projects 3D images with the absence of superposition of anatomical structures. The main objective of this research is to determine the prevalence of root resorption found in CBCT available in the Diagnostic Imaging Center of the Universidad Santo Tomás. and the specific objectives are to determine the prevalence of internal and external root resorption, determine the prevalence of internal and external root resorption according to gender and age and determine the group of teeth most affected by external and internal radicular resorption. The universe of the study was 150 CBCT corresponding to the database taken by the Diagnostic Imaging Center of the University of Santo Tomás during the period 2016 and 2017 and in the population and sample. 1473 teeth were analyzed and found in 128 tomographies that complied with The selection criteria in the results were obtained that internal root resorption was present in 15 teeth with a prevalence of 0.6% and external root resorption in 203 teeth with a prevalence of 8.5%. According to the gender, the female presented the highest prevalence in internal and external resorbations, tooth 21 showed greater prevalence in terms of internal and external resorbations and with respect to age it can be affirmed to affirm that internal resorption occurs with greater Frequency between the ages of 18 to 22 years and in the external resorption in ages between 53 to 57 years. The great importance and usefulness of this study is to be the first to be carried out at institutional and regional level and despite not having comparable figures for the population studied, it is a very important starting point for future research in all areas of dentistry and encourage interdisciplinary work. It is suggested to carry out a study with a larger sample and to allow clinical and histological analysis.
