Resumen
This research aims to decipher how architecture can contribute to the sacred experience in the Christian catholic rite and how it would be reflected in a specific building. Therefore, the idea is to contribute to the discussion around architecture to create atmospheres and emotions through the analysis of a concrete object full of symbolic character, such as the Christian temple; which has been stuck under the same design principles and has made it harder to express the changes proposed by the II Vatican Council. To make it possible the research focused on the principles of the contemporary Catholic Church and the meaningful architecture under a phenomenological perspective. In this way, it was possible to identify several patterns that sacred places have shared throughout history and that contribute to create specific sensations, being key elements to consider in the development of the later architectural design.
