Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of complications that were selected during and after the surgical procedures performed at the Santo Tomás University by students in the sixth to tenth semester of undergraduate and postgraduate periodontics during the period 2015-2018. Materials and methods: The following study was classified as a descriptive cross-sectional observational study, focused on studying the frequency and description of the complications affected during and after the surgical procedures, 735 medicales records of patients treated at the Santo University clinics were reviewed. You have to have informed research consent. Results: Of the reviewed histories 369 (50.2%) corresponded to male patients and the average age of the patients was 38.3 ± 14.8 years, the most commonly performed surgical procedure was simple exodontics followed by complex exodontics. The intra-surgical complication was reported in 12 records (1.6%) and the most frequent was the fracture of the root with a frequency of 6 cases (0.8%), rapid oroantral communication with 3 cases (0.4%) and soft tissue injury with 3 cases (0.4%). As for the postoperative complication, it was reported in 40 records (5.4%) and the most frequent was inflammation with 12 cases (1.6%), rapid pain with 10 cases (1.4%), alveolitis with 5 cases (0.7%), edema with 4 cases (0.5%), redness and bleeding with 3 cases (0.4%), infection with 2 cases (0.3%), hematoma / ecchymosis with 1 case (0.1%) and trismus did not show up. Conclusions: The most prevalent intra-surgical complication was root fracture and inflammation were the most prevalent in the post-surgical complications.
