Resumen
This research aims to understand situations of discrimination in health contexts from narratives constructed by transgender people and health professionals in Villavicencio, through a qualitative methodology, an interpretive paradigm and a social constructionist epistemology. There are four participants, two of them are transgender women over 18 years old and two health professionals, who have had at least one experience in health caring for transgender people. The narrative method is implemented, as a research tool conversational scenarios are used and the analysis of narratives is done through a coding matrix formed by the categories of analysis.
The findings indicate discriminatory situations towards transgender persons in health contexts due to their gender identity, as well as the lack of training in the working life of health professionals on differential care for the LGBTI population, anticipation of stigma by transgender people, the non-recognition of identity names and the use of derogatory language by health professionals are understood as some of the barriers to access to health services for the transgender people.
