Resumen
Objective: to understand the perceptions, knowledge and practices of parents of preschool children of the Liceo Superior Rafael Pombo school in relation to risk factors of ocular trauma in the municipality of San Gil (Santander), Colombia 2021. Methodology: a qualitative study of convenience sampling type was used with parents of preschool children of the Liceo Superior Rafael Pombo school, conducting semi-structured interviews; studied with the methodological design of Taylor and Bogdan, these will be done through videoconferencing software due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Results: the knowledge of parents regarding the visual and ocular health care of their daughters and sons is related to those practices that, from their perspective or experience, they consider appropriate for managing daily situations. they recognize other situations such as possible ocular trauma events, scenarios at home and at school with the greatest exposure to having some type of incident are mentioned, thus, they know some elements as risk factors. In effect, they implement certain practices to make the environment and of the school some safer spaces, however, the possibility of risky situations is not completely excluded. Conclusion: the most important findings focus on the existing knowledge of parents regarding visual health care in their children thanks to the experience of specific emergency episodes that have happened directly or indirectly in their immediate environment. They recognize these components of ocular trauma dangers, however there is no evidence of a decrease in the recurrence of ocular trauma in children at home despite making transformations in spaces to avoid risk situations.
