The importance of blinking and the quality of the tear film in the prevention of occupational eye diseases is evident, since, at the workplace, most activities require a high degree of concentration that reduces the frequency of blinks in an occupational setting. minute. Objective: Establish the ocular protection index in computer user administrative workers, Likewise, evaluate clinical characteristics of the ocular surface, sociodemographic and environmental, and determine the blink frequency and tear rupture time together with the time and interval of pauses visual assets in computer users, as well as the hours of use of the same. Materials and methods: A type of quantitative, observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, where the IBI (blink interval) and BUT were determined for each participant, relating their results through the eye protection index, in addition to other clinical and sociodemographic variables in computer users in the administrative area of Bucaramanga.
Results: 52 computer user workers were evaluated where 68% belonged to the female gender. In the same way, the ocular surface made up of three components was evaluated, the first of them, BUT presenting altered in 16.66% of the eyes. Conclusions: The ocular protection index in computer user administrative workers is shown below normal values, in the same way it is evident that as age increases there is a tendency to decrease in the BUT, Schirmer, meniscometry and Blincometry values Key words: Eye protection index, Break up time, blincometry, computer user syndrome.
