The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of a brief protocol based on the Mindful Self-Compassion program composed of 4 group sessions and conducted via internet synchronously, on the variables of self-compassion, self-efficacy, self-criticism, stress, mindfulness, rumination and worry, in a population of university students from Colombia. A pre-test and post-test experimental design was used with a waiting list control group assigned randomly (N = 35). We performed within-group and between-group analyzes, our results show that the program used is effective in increasing self-compassion (d= 1.603), self-efficacy (d= 0.655), and mindfulness (rB = 0,954), and consequently reducing levels of depression (rB= 0.980), stress (d= 1.050), rumination (d = 0.626) and worry (d= 1.077); however, the reduced size of the sample limits the generalization of this results. We discuss the implications of short interventions based on self-compassion as an effective strategy for addressing emotional issues in college students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
