Este estudio se hizo, mediante el seguimiento durante diferentes intervalos de tiempo, al comportamiento de la longitud de onda del láser Metrology is responsible for measurements in any field of scientific and technological research based on the fundamental units established by the BIPM. One of these units corresponds to the meter, which is defined as the distance that the light travels in a time interval of 1/299792458 seconds. This unit establishes the base length measurement in the traceability pyramid. The gauge blocks are the primary standards of length than are employed to give traceability to the meter and allow calibrate other instruments for everyday use. The measurement of the length of the gauge blocks is done by using interferometers. These measurements are carried out in different Metrology Institutes in the world, among which is the NIST in the United States, the CEM in Spain, PTB in Germany among others, and in Latin America the measurement of gauge blocks by interferometry is performed at CENAM in Mexico, at INTI in Argentina and INMETRO in Brazil. At the Instituto Nacional de Metrología, Colombia (INM), a set of gauge blocks is measured by interferometry in other institutes in Latin America. This set is employed to calibrate by mechanical comparation other instruments. Seeking to obtain metrological independence in Colombia, it is desired to develop an instrument to measured gauge blocks using interferometric techniques. In this work the first design and construction of a Twyman-Green type interferometer is made, which is used to measure the length of gauge blocks by means of interference paterns. This thesis is part of a joint project between the Instituto Nacional de Metrología, Colombia (INM) and Uniandes. In this work, a laser light source (Helium-Neon) was studied in order to identify variables that alter its stability (temperature, humidity, pressure). This study was made during different time intervals. In the design of the interferometer, a magnification of the beam size is carried out, so that the resulting beam illuminates the entire surface of the mirrors
