Abstract

La relación Período-Luminosidad para estrellas variables Cefeidas es una herramienta importante para medir distancias en la escala intergaláctica cercana. Dado que las series de tiempo en astronomía terrestre están usualmente muestreadas de manera no uniforme, deben usarse técnicas alternativas al análisis de Fourier clásico para poder determinar el período de una estrella variable. Por lo tanto, aquí se presentan varios algoritmos para la exploración del espectro de Fourier de una señal arbitrariamente muestreada en el tiempo, y se comparan unos con otros en términos de velocidad y robustez. El mejor de ellos es usado para encontrar los períodos de las Cefeidas clásicas en las Nubes de Magallanes, usando los datos del proyecto OGLE-IV. The Period-Luminosity relation for Cepheid variable stars is an important tool to measure distances in the near intergalactic range. As time series in terrestrial astronomy are usually sampled in an uneven manner, alternative techniques to classical Fourier analysis must be used in order to determine the period of a variable star. Therefore, several algorithms are presented that allow the exploration of the Fourier spectrum of a signal with arbitrary temporal sampling. These algorithms are implemented and examined for speed and robustness. The best one is then used to find the periods of the classical Cepheids from the Magellanic Clouds, with data from the OGLE-IV project. Those periods and the Wesenheit extinction-free index are used to plot the Period-Luminosity relations for the Magellanic Clouds.
