Education is one of the most important tools that societies have to eradicate social inequality and promote national prosperity -- Although in recent years there has been increased interest in the design of public policies that promote successful educational reforms, its relationship with political clientelism has been ignored -- Much has been written about the dynamics of Colombian politics and the constant scandals of corruption in the education system. However, little has been inquired about the influence of clientelist networks in the quality of education and in the distribution of educational services -- The intention of this text is not to analyze how clientelism in education conditions the electoral exercise, but how this practice negatively affects the quality of said system -- For this reason, and given the relevance of this analysis for the current era, what is intended here is to describe the way in which clientelist networks operate in the educational system in the municipality of Itagui, and its relationship with the low quality of the secondary basic level of the official institutions during the period 2015-2017
